Instant Pot Crispy Beef
with Red Peppers + Onions
Are you needing a mouthwatering, easy beef recipe?
Well, here it is.
I love that Instant Pot’s can do so much. I use the saute setting on high to sear these boneless beef short ribs up very nicely – like 15 minutes per side. And then switch to the high pressure setting for 65 minutes. Pour in bone broth, liquid aminos and smashed garlic. Let it do it’s thing.
Don’t worry if you don’t have an Instant Pot. It will have a few more steps but with a slow cooker or oven on low, you too can make this.
You will thank me over and over again. It’s a hit.

- Beef boneless short ribs
- liquid aminos or soy sauce
- beef bone broth

My love for boneless short ribs
When boneless and short ribs are used in the same description, well you know it’s going to be good.
While I know bone in give you the idea of more flavor because of being on the bone…I just don’t get it. Not a lot of meat on those bones, if you ask me. You can infuse so much flavor in the broth or cooking liquid you use that will cook into the ribs.
Let me tell you all the reasons why I love them.
- price per rib = more meat
- no messy bones and no paying for the weight of the bones (this is an eye roll for me)
- you can sear/brown all 4 sides really well
- you can also cut some of the fat out of the ribs before cooking, if you want or need

Description
Grab your Instant Pot and your dinner will be done in less than 1.5 hours…without much effort from you.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs. boneless beef short ribs
- salt and pepper
- 1/4 liquid aminos or soy sauce
- 1 cup beef bone broth
- 4 garlic cloves, smashed
- 1 medium shallot, sliced
- 1/2 yellow onion, small to medium diced
- 1 red bell pepper, small to medium diced
- 1/3 cup coconut aminos
- 2 scallions, sliced thinly
- 1/2 teaspoon dried red pepper flakes, optional
Instructions
- Set your Instant Pot to the saute setting on high. Sprinkle the boneless short ribs with salt and pepper on all sides. Place in an even layer (you may have to work in batches for this step) in the Instant Pot. Let sear/brown for 12-15 minutes on the first side. Flip over and do the same on the remaining sides. Remove the ribs from the Instant Pot.
- Saute the garlic and shallots for 1 minute. Stir in the liquid aminos and beef bone broth. Add the ribs back into the Instant Pot.
- Set your Instant Pot to the pressure setting on high for 70 minutes.
- Meanwhile, dice the onion and red bell pepper and set on a baking sheet tray with sides.
- Set your oven to broil (high). Release the pressure from the Instant Pot. Use tongs to remove the ribs to the baking sheet tray with the diced onion and red bell pepper. Arrange in an even layer around the baking sheet tray. Add in 1/2 cup of the cooking liquid to the tray. Drizzle the coconut aminos on top of the ribs.
- Place in your oven for 4-6 minutes or until the ribs are very browned but not burnt. Remove and sprinkle with scallions and red pepper flakes (if desired). Serve with jasmine rice and the cooking liquid.
Notes
Be sure to sear/brown the short ribs for at least 10 minutes on at least 2 of the sides. You want a nice crispy brown sear. Searing also helps to caramelize and cook off the fat within the ribs.
