Quick Hoisin Ground Beef
+ Cauliflower Stir Fry

Above picture of Quick Hoisin Ground Beef and Cauliflower Stir Fry

Another quick and easy mid week meal for you.

I’ve been looking at ways to use ground beef, other than the typical burger and meatball option – which are all delicious but I needed to change it up a bit.

The homemade Hoisin sauce takes less than 6 minutes to make. I usually double it, since it keeps very well and for a long time in the refrigerator.

Anytime I can use this hoisin sauce – I am in! It’s delicious. I love to dip things into it but it’s even better as a sauce poured on top of hot stir fried meat and vegetables.

Cauliflower and Broccoli

Add more vegetables of your liking. Carrots, snap peas, mushrooms, onion and baby corn would all be great.

I like how the cauliflower browns up nicely and then adding the broccoli 4 minutes later keeps everything tender but not over cooked.

Description

The faster stir fry filled with lots of rich flavors from sesame and homemade hoisin sauce. Dig in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil, divided
  • 1 lb. ground beef (I used Five Mary’s Farms)
  • 1 head cauliflower, cleaned and trimmed into bites sized florets
  • 1 large head of broccoli, cleaned and trimmed into bite sized florets
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup hoisin sauce
  • 3 scallions, sliced
  • serve with hot sauce

Hoisin Sauce

  • 1/2 cup coconut aminos
  • 1/4 cup sunflower seed butter
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 tablespoon coconut vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon chili sauce (your favorite hot sauce, works great)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 pinch of ground black pepper

Instructions

To make the Hoisin Sauce

  1. Combine all the ingredients into a small saucepot, bring to a simmer and stir with a whisk to combine all ingredients.
  2. Turn the heat to very low and simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. Turn the heat off and set aside until needed.

To make the Stir Fry

  1. Heat a large saucepan or wok (with a lid) over high heat. Add in 1 tablespoon of the sesame oil and ground beef. Try not to break the beef up into tiny pieces, leave medium to larger pieces and let it cook completely through. Stir occasionally until all the pink is gone.
  2. Turn the heat off and remove the cooked beef to a plate or bowl. Set aside.
  3. Return the pan or wok to your stove over medium/high heat. Add in the remaining 1 tablespoon of sesame oil.
  4. Place the cauliflower in the pan. Try to arrange the florets in a single layer on the pan, so they touch the bottom of the pan. Let cook for 4 minutes.
  5. Add in the broccoli and stir to combine. Pour in 1 cup of water and put a lid on the pan. Let steam and cook until all the water has evaporated. Remove the lid.
  6. Flip the florets over and around so more of them get browned. Cook until they are slightly tender but not overcooked.
  7. Return the cooked ground beef to the pan. Stir to combine. Turn the heat off and drizzle the hoisin sauce on the top and garnish with scallions. Toss slightly to coat everything with the sauce and scallions. Serve hot and with extra hoisin sauce.
