What's in my Breakfast Smoothie.

Chef Kat's Morning smoothies

Updated April 2024

Smoothies are just so good. I get excited in the morning to have mine. It tastes so good and knowing the ingredients in it makes me want to lick the blender bowl.

Week day mornings can be a little hectic. Typically, I wake up at 4:45am so I can get my sweat on – it has helped my mental and physical health so much – just making myself a priority! Then by 6am I’m getting the kids ready for school and myself for work. Drink a glass of water with each my pre workout and post workout – around 16 oz each. I blend a smoothie up around 6:30 and enjoy it before we head out the door at 7:30. It has been a great way for me to jump start my day, instead of the typical coffee that I used to start with – that instantly dehydrated me. Then around 9:30am I eat a small breakfast of eggs and spinach or museli with blueberries.

Smoothies are not a meal replacement.. They may make you feel full but they shouldn’t replace a balanced meal.

I haven't always liked smoothies.

All those green smoothies, gritty textures, strange taste left in my mouth, way too much sugar and just all the wrong combinations…all those experiences didn’t really give me the drive to dive back into the smoothie game.

After some of my New Year changes (read more about them here and here), smoothies have become a delicious start of my day and something I crave and look forward to.

The details.

In order of how I put it into my blender bowl.

*The frozen fruit is a must to make the flavor delcious but also the consistancy just right.

How I change it up.

I can get in the habit of using the same ingredients every morning but it is nice to change it up occasionally.

  • fresh Spinach or kale
  • frozen Banana
  • Orange Juice – fresh squeezed is best
  • Matcha
  • Flax Seeds
  • Cinnamon
  • Turmeric
  • Avocado
  • Mint, Cilantro, Parsley
  • Nut Butter like Almond or Peanut Butter
  • Ginger
  • Unsweetened Almond or Coconut Milk

When I want to change up the make up of ingredients, here are some staples I have in my pantry!

Kid smoothies. Gosh they love them.

Here is what my kids put in their smoothies.

And when they don’t want a smoothie but a fun drink. They drink this Greens First Pro Chocolate like it’s a milk shake.

Do you enjoy smoothies? Please tell me your ingredients, must have combinations and what you love! I always love hearing from you and knowing what has helped you lead a healthier and happier life.

Cheers to more smoothies in our lives.

xx Kat
