All-Purpose Mexican Inspired Spice Blend

If there’s one spice blend I always have mixed up and ready to go, it’s this one.
This All-Purpose Mexican Inspired Spice Blend is smoky, savory, flavorful, and incredibly versatile. It’s made with just six simple ingredients, takes less than five minutes to mix together, and somehow makes everything taste better.
Chicken tacos? Use it. Ground beef for burrito bowls? Use it. Roasted vegetables? Definitely use it. Nachos? Absolutely.
This is one of those simple kitchen staples that makes weeknight cooking feel easier.
Why I Love This Blend
The flavor is classic and familiar without being overly complicated.
It’s smoky from the paprika, earthy from the cumin, and packed with flavor from the garlic, onion, and oregano.
And here’s the important part: It’s intentionally not spicy.
I created this blend to work for the whole family. Not everyone wants their taco Tuesday to double as a personal endurance challenge. The goal is flavor first.
If you like a little heat, that’s easy to fix.
Want It Spicier?
When I’m making dinner for adults or just feeling adventurous, I’ll often add:
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- a pinch of cayenne pepper
It adds just enough heat without overpowering everything else.

This blend works on almost any protein:

The Dip Trick You Need to Know
Here’s my favorite shortcut.
Mix a spoonful of this seasoning into:
- Greek yogurt
- sour cream
That’s it. You instantly have a flavorful dip, taco topping, burrito bowl sauce, or veggie dip. 5 seconds of effort.
