Gluten Free Rainbow Appetizer Board

Rainbow appetizer platter starting with red berries and peppers

Wow! I mean, just Wow. The colors are vibrant, textures are crazy and you just don’t know what to grab first. BUT do you want to be the first to “mess it up”?

Clients say that all the time. AND I’m like “DIG IN” Yes, its beautiful but its delicious too!

What do yours eyes land on first?

For me, its the strawberries and then the figs and blue cheese. I mean, everything is gorgeous!

I usually grab some fruit first and then the cheese. I love stopping by for some salty nuts, crisp grapes and creamy blue cheese with figs and prosciutto (my favorite combination).

Please make this and let me know what your guests say. Do they notice the rainbow pattern? Or do you have to mention it to them? What do they eat first? What’s left behind?

*I used two boards, because this was for a larger party. Use one board for a smaller group or find a 4 foot tray to put it on all!

Assembly isn't hard or complicated.

  1. Place similar colored items together.
  2. Start at the corner with something that will ground the board – maybe cherry tomatoes, red peppers or radishes.
  3. Place something next to that, that has a different texture, shape or flavor profile. (this is a pro tip to use every step of that way!). I like to put things in long rows, or small clusters.
  4. If you are making a rainbow board, obviously stick to the color pattern and grown it from there.
  5. For the meats, layers them in lines and roll up the prosciutto
  6. Place crackers or breads in areas near items like cheese and dips, which they are used with.
  7. Garnish it with herbs and serve.

REMEMBER PLACE ITEMS ORGANICALLY TOGETHER.

Adding all the extras

Here are some thoughts on how to “garnish” your board.

Slice an orange in half and place it randomly around the yellow and orange colored items – people might not eat it, but it adds more interest, color and texture to your board.

Fresh herbs like, basil, thyme sprigs and mint always add interest and help finish any dish – same goes for an appetizer board.

Edible flowers would really be nice, including lavender sprigs.
