At Home: Or in the woods. My Camping Gear Wish List
We lost about 98.5% of our camping gear in our recent move. Yay, I know, what the heck?!?! (our moving saga is another story or blog post).
Camping brings us joy, dirt in our fingernails and just a love of sleeping on the cold hard ground (or in a luxurious RV).
So since we are starting pretty much from scratch, I’ve started a not so short list. Everything from sleeping gear to cooking gourmet equipment to backpacks and everything in between.
If I forget anything, let me know, because this lady is going shopping!
Camp Kitchen
I love to cook while we camp. I trust my husband will pack the sleeping bags and tent. I just think about the food. Here is my LONG list of essentials. Everything on this list gets me SO excited.
Cast iron skillet, a Cast iron Dutch oven, classic enamel tableware and I never will go camping without coffee
A classic is a Coleman stove they are great for car camping. For back packing, we had this one burner portable stove.
Give me all the color coded cutting boards and sporks!!
Car + Travel to Camping
Car camping = packing the car like you are leaving for a month. Bring everything!
I love this HydroFlask Soft Cooler Tote because it’s soft and could fit in the back seat with snacks and cold drinks en-route to your campsite. I always have a tumbler in my car + it’s great for using at the campsite for hot + cold drinks.
This Yeti cooler is a splurge but I’m in love. And since I’m adventuring out more on my OWN, I’m going to need this.
Time to Sleep
For backpacking, a lighter tent is better than heavier – such an obvious statement but seriously. This a great option! For car camping, going a bit bigger is so nice – This NEMO tent gives you some head room.
Therm-a-rest are soooo light, easy to inflate and comfortable. I love this NEMO one – all those air pockets have got to be comfortable.
Take a Seat
We had these chairs and I will be buying them again. They are comfortable, have cup holders and don’t tip over. Kids love these mini ones too.
This roll top table is totally luxury -it’s not a necessity but it would be gold to have.
We haven’t found our ENO hammock yet in the mountain of boxes but this is the one we had/have. So fun.
Extra Gadgets
These headlamps are great for kids to use and so easy and light weight for adults. You aren’t going to shine up the sky but you are going to be able to light your path.
I saw this lantern on Shark Tank. LOVE IT!
Everyone like to cut wood when camping, right? Then we need this hatchet.
Backpacking Essentials
I love this back pack – its serious and I can be serious sometimes too.
Blister, headache, bites or some booboo – this medical kit has it all.
Always good to have some ropes or utility cord
I love a water bottle that has a filter in it so easy to put in your back pack and go. We also had this filter system.
This fire starter is a treat especially when fires are safe to start and after a long day of hiking.
Always pack an extra pair of socks. Take it from me. Dry warm socks are better than wet.
Things that made me go "hmmm"
GUYS what the heck is THIS? Would you use it? and then there is this. They might just be on to something for us ladies!
A floating grill. A FLOATING GRILL – people! Seriously. You need that hot dog so badly when you are floating down the river. Yikes.
I love this check list from REI. No matter if you are going for 2 nights or 1 week, you have to bring + pack a TON of stuff. I’m always surprised at how full our car is.
And then of course you need a list for food, drinks, and all the extra things like paddleboards, bikes and games that you will bring.
Happy trails to you. I’m off to shop so we can have some fun in the woods, sometime soon.
